Cycling and routes

If your idea of the perfect vacation includes hiking or biking through pristine scenery, the Bolognese Apennines are your next destination. Here, where the air is fresh and the views sweep across hills and mountains, a dense network of trails and historic routes awaits you.

Agriturismo La Piana dei Castagni is strategically located, making us the perfect base for cyclists, hikers, and mountain bikers. Whether you’re looking to take on a European challenge or discover the hidden secrets of our valley, the adventure begins right outside our door.

The Eurovelo 7 Cycle Route: From the North to Malta

An unmissable opportunity for international cycle tourism enthusiasts is its proximity to the Eurovelo 7 – Sun Route, one of Europe’s great “cycle highways.” This majestic route connects the icy North Cape in Norway with the sunny island of Malta, crossing the entire continent.

We’re proud to let you know that the Eurovelo 7 passes less than 1 km from our property. This means you can easily fit us into your itinerary, enjoying a regenerating rest before hitting the road again. Whether you’re traveling hundreds of kilometers or planning a local stretch, Agriturismo La Piana dei Castagni offers the ideal welcome, guaranteeing a comfortable stay and services designed for cyclists. An exciting window into the great European cycle tourism awaits you!

The Little Cassia: In the Footsteps of History by Bicycle

The Piccola Cassia is a picturesque regional trail that follows the ancient Roman road. It’s particularly versatile and ideal for cycling, especially mountain biking, thanks to its long stretches alternating between asphalt and dirt paths immersed in nature.

A crucial point on this route is the town of Santa Lucia, an ancient and historic site located a short distance from us. Santa Lucia is not only a charming village, but also a crucial intersection with another important route: the Via Nonantolana / Via Romea Strata, which connects Northeastern Europe with Italy.

Santa Lucia serves as a true gateway and connection between the two main routes in this area. Furthermore, the town is included in a more recent and fascinating circular route of approximately 90 km, the Cammino Tesori del Reno (Treasures of the Rhine Trail), which starts and ends at the Vergato train station and allows you to discover the wonders of both banks of the Reno River. The Piccola Cassia offers a perfect mix of history, spirituality, and outdoor sports.

Historical Routes: On the Trail of the Gothic Line

In addition to the great trails, our area is rich in local historical routes of profound value, all to be explored on foot or by bike. The central theme is the Linea Gotica, the complex defensive line built during World War II that crossed the Apennines.

These trails are not just a stroll through nature, but also a true journey through memory. The routes are complemented and enhanced by private collections and small local museums dedicated to this historical period, such as the Gothic Line Museum in Castel d’Aiano. Exploring the Gothic Line is an intense and informative experience, allowing you to combine the pleasure of hiking with knowledge of the events that shaped our region. We invite you to cycle or walk along these trails for a complete immersion in local history.
